Tamar – Mal Peet

This was a departure from fairies and vampires, but not from YA. This was a historical fiction novel that mainly takes place in Nazi-occupied Holland during the “Hunger Year” and is about some figures in the Dutch resistance. I liked it (but kept expecting one of the figures to turn into a werewolf) , but I think I got pretty burnt out on Holocaust literature a few years ago and this just wasn’t that compelling.  I think that the scenes that take place in the 1940’s are compelling, but this is supposed to be the story of a 20ish year old woman explaning what happened when her grandpa committed suicide when she was 15 (in 1995) and his life as a resistance fighter. It was a little disjointed, and I kept wishing I knew more about the Dutch resistance.
